Students visited Colonial Williamsburg in our classroom before winter break. They learned what life would have been like for people who lived in colonial times. Students visited the College of William and Mary where the boys wrote using old fashioned ink and the girls learned how to sew (using yarn and a paper hole punch). They also visited the shoemaker's shop where students measured their feet and took orders for custom made boots. In addition, students experienced life on the plantation. They sang spirituals and harvested crops (used a tooth pick to pick up rubber bands from the floor and stack them perfectly in a cup) as fast as they could for rewards of food.
