We ended last week with our first book club meetings. Students selected texts to read with their friends and discuss in a student-led book club. Here are some photos of their clubs!Students had a great week! We started a new unit in math over decimals, we finished our unit in social studies over the first Americans, we read several books including Harvesting Hope and The Yellow Star, we celebrated putting together our whole Mr. Potato head (for good behavior) with lunch in the room and a movie, and we had a publishing party with Kindergarten! Here are some pictures from this week: Hello! Here is what has been going on in fifth grade: We have had a great start to our year and now that routines have been established and we are all feeling comfortable, we are really starting to dive deeper and deeper into fifth grade curriculum. Students are almost finished editing their first pieces of fifth grade writing and they should be very proud. I am seeing some great things happening! Students will be celebrating their writing with the kindergarten class in a few weeks. We have also finished our first social studies unit and we are now embarking on a journey through history, starting with the earliest Americans. Math continues to be an adventure as we are finishing up with unit one: fractions. Reading is kicking off as well with the start of our first unit of reading instruction and guided reading. The theme is "better together." Students have already earned a class party for good behavior. They chose the theme: bring a toy to school. It was very fun and many students were able to bring games and other toys to share with their classmates. Students also elected the fifth grade student council. Many students gave speeches and did a terrific job. Congratulations to everyone who participated! Here are some photos from the previous month:
Here is what's up in fifth grade! We have had a great start to our year in fifth grade! Over the past couple of days we have been checking out books, going over procedures and expectations, building a classroom community, and previewing the fifth grade curriculum. Over the next week we will start diving into math materials, setting up reading groups, learning about geography, and writing personal narratives. You will be receiving an email from me regarding my homework policy and some important due dates/test dates for various subjects. Here are some pics from the first few days. Enjoy! |
